Mass Memory SW Application

Mass Memories are devices that allow to temporary store the in-orbit satellites data. A complex Application provides a structured file system and controls the incoming data filling. When commanded by on-board sequence, the SW handles the data distribution to the antenna subsystem that takes care of the transmission to the ground station.

Radar Console

Software Defined Radio (SDR) is the technique of getting code routines as close to the antenna as possible. It basically turns radio hardware problems into software problems.

The fundamental characteristic of a GNSS SDR receiver is that software processes the received signal from the navigation satellites, in place of an analog circuit or an application-specific DSP. Thus, a significant increase of flexibility and adaptability is possible.

GNSS Vulnerability

GNSS systems present two main weaknesses: their signals are weak and, in  case of civil GNSS, they are also unauthenticated.

With weak signal, other signals in the same GPS frequency band don’t need to be very strong at all in order to override the satellite signals and jamm the GNSS signal. Civil GNSS signals do not have authentication: they are broadcast “in the clear” potentially vulnerable to spoofing. In general, a spoofing attack is a situation in which one person or program successfully masquerades as another by falsifying data and thereby gaining an illegitimate advantage.
